Area professionals who are interested in developing their careers and becoming better leaders should consider applying for our Leadership Greater Waterbury program, which kicks off its 2022-23 class with the first day of a two-day orientation on Oct. 19.
The program got its start in 1985 and over the past few decades, more than 500 area workers have participated in Leadership Greater Waterbury, gaining new insights, skills, and lifelong connections that have repeated benefits to their personal growth and for their company or organization. The 2022 class had employees from: Drew Marine; Element Solutions Inc.; Hubbard-Hall, Inc.; Ion Bank; Liberty Bank; New Opportunities, Inc.; Post University; Saint Mary’s Hospital; Thomaston Savings Bank; and the Waterbury Regional Chamber.
During the interactive program, participants have the opportunity to hear from regional leaders and facilitators from public, private and nonprofit businesses, as well as more than 500 alumni, to learn about the resources and challenges that affect Greater Waterbury. Through in-person visits, training opportunities, and hearing firsthand from speakers, the participants learn about local and state government, arts and entertainment, history, the local business community, health and human services, education and communication.
Sorrina Salvatore of Ion Bank, a co-chair of the steering committee along with Mary Yatcko of Post University, says: “The LGW program creates lifelong partnerships and develops community awareness. The program covers certain skillsets, such as communication, recruiting, leading and managing teams. Personal and professional growth are cornerstones of the Leadership Greater Waterbury program.”

Mini Golf Tournament, Oct. 3: If you are a young professional or your company has young professionals, come join the Young Professionals of Waterbury Region on Oct. 3, 2022 at Hidden Valley Miniature Golf in Southington for a fun evening of golf. After the golf, the evening will continue with networking, food, drinks, raffles and networking on Hidden Valley’s recently renovated patio.
Throughout the year, YPOWR members have the chance to attend a CEO series event, network, participate in community service projects, and grow their professional connections.
