Johor Bahru saw the best mooncake sales this year

This year’s mooncakes sales have been their best, with several selling out and ultimately going out of stock due to high demand, especially from the Singaporeans.

Mooncake stores in Johor Bahru claim that Singaporeans cleaned their shelves by buying boxes of mooncakes during the Mid Autumn festival, reported the China Press.

City Square Mall’s Oversea mooncakes store manager, Huang Xiaoning, said that she saw Singaporean customers buying 100 boxes of mooncakes at one go.

According to Huang, the customer who planned to give them away to colleagues was even willing to go through the trouble of declaring them.

This year’s mooncakes sales have been their best, with several selling out and ultimately going out of stock due to high demand, added Huang.

Echoing Huang’s sentiment, other mooncakes salespersons also claim that this year’s mooncakes sales have been the best so far.

According to China Press, some stores have some stocks left, while others have entirely run out of stock by the end of Mid Autumn festival.

Furthermore, Huang added that the unusual mooncakes sales in Johor Bahru are due to the recent opening of the land border and the school holidays.

Another reason for the sale is the post-Covid-19 post-pandemic, which saw an unusual influx of Singaporean tourists.

She then added that her store ran out of mooncakes over the next few days and that they had to request more mooncakes from the head branch.

Shen Jinrong, who runs the Liumama mooncake outlet, said that sales have increased by 90% since the pandemic.

Some mooncakes sold out within two hours, so the supply volume had to be increased by 30%.

China Press also reported that some salespersons said that Malaysian mooncakes are in such high demand due to their unique taste and price, as a box of mooncakes in Malaysia costs around half or one-third as much as it would in Singapore.

Others said there’s more variety in Malaysia, including more novel mooncakes, compared to Singapore, where they tend to be more traditional.

The Mid Autumn festival concluded on September 10th.
