New Delhi: Menopause is a natural biological process where a woman goes 12 months without a menstrual period. This usually happens to women in their 40s and 50s. It also marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years.
With menopause, there is a change in the hormonal levels in the blood which can affect the overall well-being of an individual. In the months and years leading up to menopause, one is likely to experience several signs and symptoms such as irregular periods, hot flashes, irregularities in sleep, and weight gain among several others.
With the changing level of hormones in the body, it is likely that a person is going to experience a range of changes in the body as well as emotionally. It is therefore important that she takes steps that help to keep her body and mind healthy. While some of these could be tackled with medications others could be some lifestyle changes.
  1. Communicate your needs: Consider talking to a psychologist to help overcome the range of emotions that one might be going through. This could be anything; depression, anxiety, or insomnia. Speak to your family about your needs if you are not comfortable talking to a psychologist.
  2. Exercising regularly: With the changing level of hormones in the body, your body might be gaining some weight making it difficult to move. It is therefore important that you exercise regularly and reduce your daily calorie intake to help manage your weight.
