Construction has kicked off on the next phase of the Rockwall Technology Park, a light industrial business park near Interstate 30 in Rockwall.
The Rockwall Economic Development Corp. has broken ground on the third phase of the project which includes 210 acres for new businesses.
The first phase of the business park located north of State Highway 276 opened in 2000.
More than 20 buildings with almost 3 million square feet have been completed or planned in the project which houses 21 companies. About 2,900 people currently work in the development.
“We know there are many companies out there, in many different locations and industries, that will eventually benefit from this project,” Rockwall Economic Development president Phil Wagner said in a statement.
Freese & Nichols is the engineering design firm and construction manager for the project and Mario Sinacola & Sons Excavating is the general contractor.
Current construction at the Rockwall Technology Park is scheduled for completion late next year.
The business park has an estimated value of $370 million.
The industrial sites are being marketed to manufacturers and distributors to be built in the business park.
Businesses now located in the park include Pratt Industries, SPR Packaging, Karat by Lollicup and Special Products and Manufacturing Inc.
